There was an article in the paper last week about Titanium golf clubs causing fires. I just wanted to pass this along to those of you, who like me, use the Flexbow 2000. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Flexbow 2000 it is a violin bow that is guaranteed upon using to take the beginning novice to first violin in a matter of weeks. The secret is the construction of space age polymers and titanium tip. The bow is capable of cutting down an oak tree and then afterwards cleanly slice a tomato before playing a moonlit sonata. The concern for those of us who have them are we in danger of setting fires in our homes. Fortunately for myself the only metal string I have on my violin is the G string (which isn’t at all what I thought it would be when I started playing the violin) and I haven’t managed to hit it since I’ve started so I’m good to go. But for the rest of you I would recommend keeping a fire extinguisher near your practice area just to be on the safe side.

I need to make a correction on my safety tip. I meant the E string and not the G string when I said it was made out of steel. I had the violin under my chin backwards again. Sorry for the confusion. Actually I think most G strings are made out of silk.

I don't have a Flexbow 2000 violin bow myself, but it's good to know about the potential risks. It's always better to be safe, so keeping a fire extinguisher nearby sounds like a good precaution. Stay safe, everyone!
